Okay- There are a few very long words in our ingredient list. We want you to know what is in our products and why. Below is an explanation:
**Sodium Hydroxymethylglycinate is a preservative derived from the naturally
occurring amino acid, glycine. It as a natural alternative to parabens. It is considered an effective preservative because of its ability to cover a broad spectrum of microbes and protect against bacteria, yeast and mold in our product. It also has some stabilizing properties. Sodium Hydroxymethylglycinate is used at extremely low concentrations in our body butter formula.
**Phenoxyethanol is an organic chemical compound. It works as a preservative by inactivating gram-negative and gram-positive microorganisms, as well as a yeast. This compound also has stabilizing properties.
**Caprylyl Glycol is a plant derived humectant and skin conditioning agent that lends moisturization, emollience and wetting properties. It also functions as a stabilizer and has been shown to have antimicrobial properties.
(We have found that by adding these non-paraben and naturally derived compounds to our formula, that they act as emulsifiers and stabilizers to keep the honey in our body butter from separating from the essential oils and other ingredients. As an added bonus they also prevent against antimicrobial growth that could occur simply due to the microflora contained on our hands. These ingredients allow our natural body butter to not require refrigeration. Since the amount of natural preservatives we use is minimal, we suggest always using clean hands when removing body butter from the tin & for best quality use your body butter within 6 months of opening.)
